About Rick

As stated on the Welcome page, Rick has over a 15 years of GIS experience working in both the municipal planning and environmental consulting industries. Prior to working independently, Rick worked for over seven years at Behan Planning and Design in Saratoga Springs.  There Rick not only honed his GIS skills, but also developed a municipal planning skill set, with a focus on open space and farmland protection planning. Rick maintains a working relationship with Behan Planning and Design, providing contracted GIS and planning support services. Prior to working in Saratoga, Rick spent four years working just outside Providence, RI as an Environmental Consultant for SAGE Environmental. It was at SAGE that Rick first developed skills in managing large and complex projects.

Rick holds Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in geology, from Union College and Brown University, respectively. Rick also earned a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems from Pennsylvania State University.

In addition to his “real job” Rick served as the Deputy Mayor / Village Trustee in the Village of Cambridge, NY for five years. As a trustee Rick was involved in all aspects of management for a village of approximately 1,900 residents in rural Washington County, NY. Primary responsibilities included economic development, technology improvements, planning and zoning, auditing and budgeting.

Recently Rick began selling digitally enhanced watercolor maps. These maps merge the loose and soft feel of watercolors with "authoritative" digital data - boundaries, elevation, roads, waterbodies, rivers, etc. Visit Rick’s “shop” on Etsy to see what maps are available.
